Lakers = Yankees

Dwight Howard is a Laker.

Chew on that for a moment. It doesn't even sound far-fetched. Some teams just always get their guy. The Lakers are certainly the Yankees of the NBA: a team with a history of winning, big market, money to blow, and a very welcoming bandwagon.

I'm not surprised Dwight ended up in LA, it just seems unfair that after all of the drama he put the Magic organization through, he ends up in an excellent situation. He needs to prepare himself for pressure and expectations. It's not Orlando anymore where a trip to the Conference Finals will be celebrated. In LA, the boys in gold are expected to run off multiple titles.

The Lakers did avoid the current NBA trend of going small, instead opting to maintain a strong frontcourt attack. They never addressed their lack of perimeter athleticism, which I feel will be their undoing. Although, nearly every year the NBA playoffs proves that many teams are one injury away from making a serious run (2012 Celtics) or one away from falling out of contention (2012 Bulls).

Regardless of your fanhood, nobody can deny that LA will win many games this year and inject more interest in a league that just got a popularity boost from a condensed schedule (is that right?). Maybe the rich did just get a lot richer, but it'll be that much more fun when they do lose games. It'll have Skip  pounding the debate desk harder than ever. The league is filled with contenders, and any NBA fan can be happy with that.
